The Juvenile Court Section of Family Division has exclusive jurisdiction over matters such as adoptions, name changes, juvenile delinquency proceedings, protective proceedings involving child abuse and neglect, emancipation of minors, parental consent, and personal protection proceedings. This Division acts as a trial court. The court is required to make findings of guilt or innocence in delinquency cases, decide disposition, and assume temporary or permanent wardship in delinquency and neglect/abuse cases.
The Juvenile Court Section of the Family Division also has ancillary jurisdiction over cases involving guardianships, conservatorships, and proceedings involving the mentally ill or developmentally disabled.
In Monroe County, the Family Division of Circuit Court also exercises administrative control of the Monroe County Youth Center and its Detention/Reception Program, and its Residential Treatment Program.
The Family Division, a division of circuit court, has exclusive jurisdiction over matters such as divorce, custody, parenting time, support, and paternity. These matters are under the operation of the Monroe County Friend of the Court Office.
