Adult Day Services 

MemoryLane Care Center offers enriching activities in a social atmosphere that stimulates the mind, body, and spirit, bringing joy and satisfaction to the life of an individual with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia while providing temporary relief, or respite, for the caregivers. Frenchtown Friendship Club
  ~ Dementia Adult Day Service Program reduces the isolation of frail older persons and restores a person's level of functioning to his/her highest level.  Foster socialization, peer interaction, and caregivers’ respite. For more information call

Monroe Family YMCA ~ Enhance Fitness Program
a moderate-impact class with high-impact results that are an evidence-based group exercise program for older adults that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals (particularly those with arthritis) to stay active throughout their life. 


Here are some of the changes our participants have noticed:
  • More energy
  • Better balance
  • Increases in the upper body and lower body strength
  • More flexibility and range of motion
  • Better sleep
  • More feelings of happiness
  • Sense of independence
Each class session includes cardiovascular, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises, and the fostering of strong social relationships between participants. Enhance Fitness is geared toward older adults.

Those with a chronic condition, such as arthritis, need not worry; they will never have to do anything that hurts. Participants can use chairs for support, if necessary, and increase the weight they use for strength training at their own pace. For more information call 734-241-2606

Health and Nutrition Services

Living Independence for Everyone provides congregate and home-delivered meals for older persons to help them live as independently as possible. Liquid meals are provided for persons who cannot swallow solid food. For more information, please call 734-242-6800

Milan Seniors for Healthy Living Meals on Wheels
offers up to 1 hot meal and 1 cold meal five days a week as well as the option of frozen meals for the weekends and shelf-stable meals for emergency usage. For more information, please call 734-508-6229

Monroe County Opportunity Program Food Assistance
 offers supplemental food to low-income adults over sixty years of age. For more information call 734-241-2775

In-Home Services 

Area Agency on Aging 1-B/Care Management/Community Living Program provides unbiased information on local services and resources for older adults, adults with disabilities, and family caregivers who have programs to help older adults remain living in the community, and can assist with understanding Medicare benefits. Monroe County Opportunity Program


  • Home Care Program assists Monroe County seniors with homemaking, personal care, shopping, meal planning and/or preparation, and respite care for family caregivers.
  • Home Chore Services assists Monroe County seniors aged 60+ with home maintenance tasks to improve safety inside and outside of the home including snow removal and lawn care.
  • Home Injury Control program includes bathroom chairs, grab bars, etc.
  • Unmet Emergency Needs and Utility Assistance offers assistance with electric, gas, and deliverable fuels such as propane. Each utility has its own income limitations.

Resource Advocacy  

Milan Seniors for Healthy Living Aging in Action is where coaching and referral services encourage aging with independence and dignity by empowering our clients and their families to pursue lifestyle changes to maintain quality of life. Through coaching, they can focus on areas important to YOU and create individualized action plans and coaching check INS as you work towards your goals.  This work can be done over the phone, in person at your home, or at the MSHL office. Everything tends to change quickly, leaving you swirling in a mound of information from this and that specialists – not to mention what the Internet says.  It is confusing and overwhelming, to say the least! The Monroe County Opportunity Program Resource Advocacy
identifies older adults in need of community services and acts as their advocates to assist these individuals to find resources that meet their needs. For more information, please call 734-241-2775

Senior Counseling Services 
  

Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP, Inc.) is a free health-benefit counseling service provided to Michigan residents. The goal is to help Michigan’s Medicare beneficiaries find their way through the health benefits maze.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and Diane Frank, certified MMAP counselor, provide MMAP counseling at our location for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers in our community on the 3rd Thursday of each month. 

There is no charge for this service. Availability is limited.  Appointments are required. Please call 734-240-3290, leave a message, and Ms. Frank will contact you to set your appointment. 

Self & Family Behavioral Health Care
specializes in geriatric mental health counseling and works with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues that span from therapy for depression and grief counseling and beyond to help attain their personal growth. For more information call

Senior Legal Services  

Monroe County Senior Legal Services provides legal assistance to residents of Monroe County who are 60 years of age or older in the greatest social or economic need. For more information call 734-241-7644

Multi-Purpose Senior Centers  

The Bedford Senior Community Center is a multi-purpose center that serves the Bedford Township area providing congregate and home-delivered meals, activities, and socialization. For more information call 734-856-3330

Dundee Senior Citizens Center
 is conveniently located to meet the physical, social, legal, emotional, and nutritional needs of seniors in Dundee and surrounding areas. For more information call

Frenchtown Center for Active Adults
 is to host and plan programs that encourage older adults to socialize and participate in activities designed to assist them to live more independent and interdependent lives. For more information, please call

Milan Seniors for Healthy Living
provides activities, programs, and services designed to enhance the quality of life and encourage aging with independence and dignity to Monroe County and Washtenaw County seniors. Noon meals are provided three times per week by the Washtenaw County nutrition program. For more information call

Monroe Center for Healthy Aging
 is open 365 days per year and is a one-stop center where seniors and others enjoy a wealth of programming, activities,  exercise, support, information and assistance, social settings, and great food! For more information, please call 734-241-0404

The Opportunity Center at ALCC
 provides positive educational, social, cultural, and recreational experiences. We are all about creating opportunities, and welcome you to stop by and learn more! For more information call

Senior Groups

Ash Senior Citizens meet every Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Carleton VFW Hall proving meals, activities, and socialization. For more information call 734-790-4601

Berlin Senior Citizens
meets every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the South Rockwood Branch Library/Community Center, located at 5676 Carleton Rockwood Road, South Rockwood, MI 48179, where they provide congregate meals, activities, and socialization. For more information call 734-379-7039 

Transportation Services

Health Van provides specialized transportation to non-emergency medical appointments to Monroe County residents. For more information call 734-850-6045

Lake Erie Transit
is Monroe County’s only public transportation that offers a variety of safe and easily accessible transportation services. All of the buses are lift-equipped. In addition to the 8 Fixed Routes, the Frenchtown and Bedford Dial-A-Rides, and the ADA service, there is the ETS service (Essential Transportation Service). ETS is a door-to-door service specifically for older residents 60+ and for the disabled. ETS may be used for any purpose after providing 48-hour advance notice.

The Monroe County Opportunity Program Specialized Transportation
provides reliable transportation to non-emergency medical appointments and treatments for senior and non-senior Monroe County residents with a disability or a chronic medical condition. For more information call 734-241-2775

Milan Seniors for Healthy Living Transportation
provides transportation to anyone 50+ years of age, living within the 48160 zip code.  Destinations can be within a 20-mile radius of Milan. This need-responsive, door-to-door service is just what you were looking for!  All MSHL vehicles are wheelchair accessible. For more information, please call 734-508-6229

Volunteer Services  

Monroe County Retired Senior Volunteer Program is a program and service offered under the Monroe Center for Healthy Aging sponsorship is working to expand volunteer experiences to better reach the entire county with special attention to supplying health, nutrition, and safety services to help seniors remain in their homes.

Other areas of special interest will include using the special talents of seniors to help our children with math, reading, and socialization and maintaining the existing network of senior support to many community services. For more information call 734-241-0408


The Monroe County Opportunity Program Volunteer Caregiver Program
will provide services to the older adult in the home. The level of services will be determined based on a full assessment. The result is that seniors receive much-needed services and caregivers are better connected to community resources and are provided respite.
