Public Health works to protect and improve the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles and research of disease and injury prevention with a goal of preventing health problems before they occur, preserving the environment, preventing hazards, offering recycling programs, assuring food safety and quality drinking water.
The Monroe County Health Department offers programs including immunizations, sexually transmitted infection control, infectious disease control, health education, hearing and vision screening, food safety inspection, on-site water and sewage and environmentally responsible solid waste disposal and recycling. The Health Department also has the authority and responsibility to assure laws related to the population’s health are enforced.
